ABOUT US

From the first day we met in lawn chairs at the home of Lynn & Linda Spruiell, until now, the mission of New Beginnings has been to make disciples of Jesus Christ. We voluntarily band ourselves together as a body of baptized believers in Jesus Christ, personally committed to sharing the good news of salvation to the lost.

Over the years, New Beginnings has continued to grow and reach families. We have experienced exciting changes and additions in our ministries, a growing staff, and expanded campuses in both Longview and Gilmer, with more to come. God continues to bless our church.

In short, New Beginnings is Jesus-ruled, elder-led, staff-directed, deacon-served, and congregationally approved and accountable.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

As its doctrinal statement, this church subscribes to the “Baptist Faith and Message” as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention in 2000. We voluntarily band ourselves together as a body of baptized believers in Jesus Christ personally committed to sharing the good news of salvation to lost mankind. The Ordinances of the church are Believer’s Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

  • We believe in the one true God, Creator of heaven and earth, who eternally exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. All things exist for the glory of God.

    Genesis 1:1, 26-27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19, 2 Corinthians 13:4; 1 Peter 1:2

  • We believe in Jesus Christ, the son of God, the second person of the Triune God. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died as the sacrificial substitute for the penalty of humanity’s sin, rose again bodily three days later in power, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will come again physically to judge the living and the dead.

    Isaiah 9:6; Matthew 1:22-23; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Acts 1:9, 11; Romans 1:3-4; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; 1 Timothy 6:1415; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 4:14-15

  • We believe in the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Triune God. He convicts us of sin, regenerates us, secures our adoption, and indwells us to make us more like Jesus Christ.

    John 14:16-17, 16:7-13; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12; 2 Corinthians 3:17; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 1:13, 5:18

  • We believe the entire Bible, all 66 books, is inspired, inerrant, infallible, sufficient, and authoritatively true on all matters of life and godliness.

    Psalm 12:6, 119, 105, 160; Proverbs 30:5; 2 Timothy 1:13, 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21

  • We believe human beings are uniquely created in the image of God, to reflect His glory. However, mankind rebelled against God, and all humanity fell from their good and right state. Now, all people, everywhere, sin by commission and omission, and have lost their ability to live for the glory of God without salvation in Jesus Christ.

    Genesis 1:26-28; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a, 59:1-2; Romans 3:23, 6:23

  • We believe the salvation of lost and sinful human beings is a free gift of God’s grace apart from human work or merit, based solely upon Jesus’ life and death, and the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit. It is received only through faith in the person and finished work of Jesus Christ. Because God gives salvation as a gift, the believer cannot lose their salvation.

    John 1:12, 14:6; Romans 5:1, 6:23; Galatians 3:26; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; John 10:29; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25, 10:10, 14; 1 Peter 1:3-5

  • We believe the church is the universal body of Christ and the one family of God. The church is made up of saved and baptized believers, who participate often in the Lord’s Supper, who regularly join together for worship, who share life for the purpose of spiritual maturity and who together, through the power of the Holy Spirit, advance the Great Commission. The local church is a visible expression of the church in a particular communal context.

    Matthew 28:18-20; 1 Corinthians 10:16-17, 12:13, 25-26; Ephesians 4:11-16; Romans 12:68

  • We believe people were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and hell are real places of eternal existence.

    Matthew 1:8, 2:44, 46; John 2:25, 3:16, 5:11-14; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:15

OUR MISSION

HOW WILL WE DO THIS?

By staying committed to being a body of believers with these mission measures.

These are marks of a mature follower of Jesus who calls New Beginnings home. This is not just about who they are at church, but how they live their everyday life for the Glory of God.

  • We want to do everything we do with a kingdom mindset - focused on how we can use our unique kingdom platform for God’s greatest glory.

  • We want to be sensitive to the movement of the Holy Spirit as we prioritize corporate and individual prayer - recognizing the value and necessity of both.

  • We want to be Biblically literate and informed as we engage culture - always prepared and eager to share what God is teaching us through consistency in the Word.

  • We want to prioritize community and authenticity among the body of Christ, understanding that we are called to encourage, challenge, and spur on one another as we seek to pursue the Mission that God has entrusted to us. This requires being others focused in all of our interactions, as well as present and accountable to the body of believers around us.

  • New Beginnings is committed to valuing, facilitating, and cultivating mission efforts both in the community and around the world. We define success not by how many people are coming to the church, but by how many people are leaving “as the church.” Our desire is that every believer would live out their mission/calling where they live, work, and play. In addition to our daily individual mission, as a church, we are called to a collective mission as well.
